Jaclyn Nunziato, MD
Executive Director
Jaclyn Nunziato is a Board Certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist and a maternal health advocate both locally and nationally. She is the co-founder of Huddle Up Moms and started this non-profit to bridge the needed gap between the healthcare systems and the community as it relates to maternal health.
Her passions include creating opportunities for quality improvement as it relates to equitable care, improvements with the 4th trimester, incorporating and education on trauma informed care, and perinatal mental health. Jaclyn is on several local, state, and national committees advocating for ways to decrease maternal mortality and morbidity in this country. She feels truly blessed at the opportunity to blend her passion for taking care of women of all ages with her desire to work on community outreach projects. She is a dedicated teacher/educator both at VTC medical school and within the community.
Personally, she is the wife of an amazingly supportive husband whom she has known since she was 18 and still supports every crazy idea and endeavor she embarks on AND she is a full time working mama of two amazing little girls!
Fun Fact: Coffee is the way to her heart and she is known to send way too many emails before 4am!
Emily McCorkle
Director of Operations, Board Treasurer
Emily McCorkle is originally from the Washington DC Metro area, but after graduating from Virginia Tech, she made Southwest VA her new home. She has worked for her alma mater since 2012 in the Pamplin College of Business. Virginia Tech's motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), drives Emily's passion for connecting people, inspiring and supporting others, and being of service to those in need. She is passionate about building a more inclusive, diverse, and welcoming place for all to feel like they belong, are seen and heard, are valued, and can thrive!
She's a mama to Charlotte (aka Charlee), Corinne (aka Cori), and has been lucky enough to be a "bonus mom" to Ethan and Ellie. She lives in Roanoke County with her husband, Chris, their four kids, and their puppy, Cocoa. Emily is excited about the Huddle Up Moms organization because its mission and vision align with her passions, and she wants to make sure that moms at all stages feel empowered to raise our future generations.
Kimberly Butterfield
Director of Education & Support
Kim is a native of southwestern Virginia and a wife and mother of two children. Professionally, she began working with health and wellness issues during her undergraduate research, focusing on diet and chronic disease management.
After college, Kim served through AmeriCorps and later became an inaugural member of Feeding America’s Child Hunger Corps team, addressing childhood hunger through programmatic interventions in southwest Virginia. In 2014, Kim received her Masters of Public Health from Virginia Tech. During that program, Kim served as a program manager for the Appalachian Community Cancer and project coordinator of the Let’s Talk Public Health youth initiative.
She previously worked at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in the interprofessionalism domain. She became an Extension Agent in serving the Roanoke Valley in 2016, providing classes, workshops, and seminars on a variety of wellness topics. In her personal life, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling, cooking and gardening. She feels a strong tie to the Appalachian region and the rich heritage of our mountains.
Christie Steele-Garcia
Director of Community Outreach & Volunteer Management
Christie Steele-Garcia is an Appalachia native, originally from Pulaski County in the New River Valley. She is a proud graduate of James Madison University and holds a Bachelor's degree in Theatre and Dance. She is currently pursuing her MBA from Radford University. Professionally, Christie currently works as the Development Director for the American Heart Association, leading Roanoke's annual Heart Ball and Go Red for Women fundraising campaigns. Her career in nonprofits spans over a decade of service, work with three major nonprofit brands in New York City and Roanoke, as well as several small shop non-profits. She has both worked and volunteered for a variety of causes, including, children's literacy, youth mentoring, education, arts education, women's health, homelessness, job readiness, and public health. Christie was drawn to nonprofit work by her first love, the arts, and believes the collaborative and creative nature of both the arts and nonprofits go hand-in-hand.
After becoming a mother to Lucy Jo in 2019, she became a passionate advocate for maternal health after suffering an emergent case of postpartum preeclampsia. She credits Huddle Up Moms and her village of support for guiding her through the darkness that followed that health trauma. She is passionate about building support networks for mothers in Roanoke and beyond, and sharing the work of Huddle Up Moms with the community she loves dearly. Christie lives in Roanoke with her husband Chris, their daughter Lucy Jo, and their rescue dog of 10 years, Tuck.
Amanda Holcomb
Director of Events
Amanda Holcomb has strong roots in the Roanoke Valley, where she was born before growing up in a small town nestled in Augusta County. She is a Radford University graduate with a Bachelor's in Communications and Public Relations. Currently serving as the Director of Community Engagement at the Council of Community Services, Amanda spearheads initiatives to bolster awareness and accessibility of Virginia's health and human services information and referral service, 211 Virginia.
With over a decade of nonprofit experience, Amanda lends her expertise to helping nonprofits and communities through strategic planning and capacity building. She co-leads Roanoke's Day of Giving, GIVE Roanoke, which has raised over $650,000 for Roanoke Valley nonprofits since 2022. Amanda is a member of Leadership Roanoke Valley's Class of 2024, a premier leadership program in Virginia's Blue Ridge.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Amanda dedicates her time to various volunteer roles, including serving as the Steven W. Short Memorial Golf Tournament and Scholarship Program Chair and Director of Events for Huddle Up Moms. Previously, she held the position of Vice President for The MaDee Project, supporting children and families battling pediatric cancer.
Alongside her professional and volunteer commitments, Amanda treasures her roles as daughter, sister, and proud aunt to six remarkable nieces and nephews. While she aspires to motherhood someday, she finds immense joy in being an integral part of her family's lives. Amanda resides in Roanoke with her beloved rescue dog, Tex, who has been her faithful companion for 14 years.
Whitney Good
Director of Marketing & Communications
As a devoted mother of two fiery redheads, Whitney brings passion and purpose to her role as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Huddle Up Moms. Her journey with HUM began in 2021, a pivotal time in her life when she and her family relocated Roanoke.
Before embracing the fulfilling responsibilities of full-time parenting in 2019 shortly after the birth of her first child, Whitney was an award-winning local TV news anchor and reporter.
Having experienced the challenges of relocating and adapting to new environments, Whitney intimately understands the significance of building a supportive village for parents. HUM became a lifeline for her in Roanoke, providing a warm embrace of like-minded individuals eager to create a sense of community.
Whitney's commitment to HUM deepened organically as she became increasingly involved with the organization. Recognizing the transformative impact HUM had on her own life, she embraced the opportunity to contribute further and was honored to assume the role of Director of Marketing and Public Relations.
In her current role, Whitney is honored to help ensure that more moms and families in Southwest Virginia benefit from the invaluable support and sense of belonging that HUM offers.
